How has JAMP helped you as you strive to achieve your goal of becoming a doctor? 
JAMP provided guidance every step of the way, from MCAT prep to applications and financial support, but of all of the aspects of JAMP, I found the scholarships to be immensely helpful. In part from the financial assistance from JAMP, I am without student loan obligations. This allowed me less pressure when choosing a specialty, and allowed me to pursue my passion: family medicine. 

What aspect of JAMP has been most beneficial to you?
JAMP is a fantastic opportunity for pre-medical students. The program provided guidance every step of the way, from MCAT prep to applications and financial support. The summer programs were vigorous at times, but they helped prepare me for medical school and provided a great opportunity to explore a few of the medical schools. I also made lifelong friendships that have lasted from college through medical school and onto residency. Of all of the aspects of JAMP, I found the scholarships to be immensely helpful. In part from the financial assistance from JAMP, I am without student loan obligations. This allowed me less pressure when choosing a specialty, and allowed me to more freely pursue my passion, family medicine.

About Dr. Marinch and advice for JAMPers:
My background: Born in Houston, Texas. Went to undergraduate at UT El Paso to pursue a soccer
scholarship. Majored in biological sciences and chemistry. Went to University of Texas Medical
Branch for medical school. While in medical school, was very involved, president of Family Medicine Interest Group, Gold Humanism Honor Society, inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, etc. Matched into first choice residency program, Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital Family Medicine Residency in Denver, Colorado. --I only add this because I want to encourage JAMP students to not just be accepted, but to thrive in medical school.

One of the JAMP students graduating 2 years ahead of me from UTMB matched into a fantastic interventional radiology program (one of the most competitive specialties)! Along the way, some people may treat you as though you are at an unfair, special advantage for being in JAMP--don't let this get you down. You deserve your spot in medical school as much as everyone else. At the same time, feel appreciative every step of the way for the opportunities given to you, and work your hardest to be the best future physician you can be.
