How has JAMP helped you as you strive to achieve your goal of becoming a doctor? Before JAMP I had this really big dream of being a doctor. I knew that it was going to be hard and I had no idea how exactly I was going to accomplish this dream but I knew if given the opportunity I would pursue this dream with everything within me.  When JAMP was introduced to me by my JAMP faculty director at the end of my freshman year I knew that this was the opportunity that I had been waiting for. JAMP has opened so many doors, offered so many opportunities and I will always be grateful for all who have contributed to JAMP because without them I don’t know where I would be in my journey towards becoming a doctor.

What advice would you like to offer current or future JAMP students?
JAMP is one of those once in lifetime opportunities and if you are  sure that being a doctor is what you are meant to be then take this opportunity and run with it. Opportunities like JAMP are not given to everyone, being apart of JAMP is a privilege and very few people are given it. So take it seriously and give it your best shot. I have just completed my second and last JAMP summer internship and as I look back over the past two years, I can say without any doubt that these past two summers have been amazing and I won’t trade them for anything. Be open to the experiences that JAMP afford you, be open to the people who you are going to meet and be open to the growth that you will experience being apart of JAMP.

What aspect of JAMP has been most beneficial to you?
I honestly think that every aspect of JAMP has been beneficial to me. however, if I had to choose one aspect it would be the MCAT Prep course. My class is the first class to take the new MCAT and so we had very different experience when it came to MCAT in comparison to the classes before us. Without JAMP and the MCAT Prep course that they gave us I know that preparing and taking the MCAT prep course would have been a lot harder. I don’t think I would have been able to afford a Prep course and I probably would have ended up trying to study for it on my own. The course required a lot of commitment but after taking my test and seeing the results all the sacrifices I made really paid off

I am not originally from America, I was born and raised for most of my childhood in Kingston, Jamaica. My parents made the move to America so that I could have a better opportunity to pursue my dream of becoming a doctor. We moved from Jamaica to  Boston, Massachusetts and from Boston to San Antonio, Texas, my Junior year of High  School. Now, I am currently a senior Biology major at Abilene Christian University and I am looking forward to my medical school interviews in the upcoming months. The journey to where I am now has not been all sunshine and smooth roads and I don’t imagine that yours has been either. JAMP has made the road to medical school a lot more achievable for me and all they asked for in return was some of my time and all of my effort. If you give both of these things everything will workout for you in the end, where I am now in my journey is definitely proof of that.
