JAMP has given me the resources and support necessary to focus on the process of getting into medical school and doing well in my undergraduate studies. Rather than stressing and straining over the multitude of costs that come with the process such as an MCAT prep course and application fees, I have been able to devote my time and energy to becoming the best student and applicant possible.
How has JAMP helped you strive to achieve your goal of becoming a doctor?
JAMP has given me the resources and support necessary to focus on the process of getting into medical school and doing well in my undergraduate studies. Rather than stressing and straining over the multitude of costs that come with the process such as an MCAT prep course and application fees, I have been able to devote my time and energy to becoming the best student and applicant possible. JAMP has also given me many opportunities to gain exposure to the field of medicine, be it shadowing or various workshops throughout my summer internships. Finally, JAMP has allowed me to network and become great friends with other prospective medical students my age, who share similar struggles. Our common experiences with pre-med and JAMP have allowed us to support each other, push one another to excel, and provide encouragement when needed.
What advice would you like to offer current or future JAMP students?
To future JAMP students, I would recommend APPLYING. JAMP has been one of the biggest blessings in my life, as it has relieved much of the financial burden that comes with the process of getting to medical school and has given me support and resources that I would not have gotten otherwise. Start by meeting your JAMP Faculty Director (JFD) and learning as much about the program and its requirements as possible to decide if the program is right for you. Then, make sure to do well in your classes and spend a considerable amount of time on your application— don’t wait until the last minute! Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you are uncertain of something and reach out to current JAMPers at your university.
To current JAMP students, I would recommend taking the advice of JAMPers who have been through the process and found success. JAMP is a tight-knit circle, and we are all willing to help one another because we all have the same goal: to become great physicians! Don’t hesitate to ask for help or assistance when you feel it might be needed. Finally, I would recommend taking advantage of the resources provided by JAMP, especially in terms of MCAT prep.
What aspect of JAMP has been most beneficial to you?
For me, JAMP’s scholarships and free MCAT resources through Kaplan have been the most beneficial. It has allowed me to worry less about working many hours a week along with doing well in my classes and preparing for the most difficult exam of my life.
