Biography:

I am a first-generation student that aspires to be an OBGYN who will eventually specialize in maternal-fetal medicine. I hope to pursue a dual degree - MD/MPH - which will provide the necessary skills and experiences to help bridge the gap between medicine, access, and preventive care within my own community. In this program, I have gained life-long friends and colleagues, and I am now more excited to continue on this path because JAMP has surrounded me with like-minded passionate aspiring physicians in Texas.

How has JAMP helped you strive to achieve your goal of becoming a doctor?

Joint Admission Medical Program (JAMP) has been such a tremendous help on my journey to becoming a physician. This program has provided not only financial assistance, but MCAT resources, great networking opportunities, professional development and mentorship. The many meaningful connections and experiences gained at the two summer internships were very fulfilling and helped me refocus and redefine my motivation and goals in medicine. Through all of this, JAMP has allowed me to become more confident in the skills I possess and what I have to offer medicine. Because of JAMP’s resources and the caring JAMP community, I now have a clearer vision of what I dream to do within my community.

What advice would you like to offer current or future JAMP students?

To future JAMP students, I would stress the importance of being open-minded and adaptable to new situations and challenges as you continue to grow. From my own experiences, those skills have been very beneficial in navigating professional and personal relationships as well as the unavoidable life blows. As you continue on such a difficult and life-altering path, it is essential to remain flexible and receptive.

What aspect of JAMP has been most beneficial to you?

The mentorship during the internships and guidance from my JAMP Faculty Director has been the most beneficial to me. I have come across various resources (i.e., life changing courses, fraternity opportunities, scholarships, connections with physicians etc.) due to the relationships I have with those individuals.
