The resources and network of peers that JAMP has provided me with have also helped to direct my efforts away from worrying about some of the added struggles that come with being from a socioeconomically disadvantaged family and region.
How has JAMP helped you strive to achieve your goal of becoming a doctor?
JAMP has helped me strive to achieve my goal of becoming a doctor by affording me a clearer vision of the future in service and science I am driven to make real as well as more opportunities to prepare and practice my self-discipline for a future in medical school and medical practice, particularly during the internships which gave me unparalleled insight about life as a medical student.
The resources and network of peers that JAMP has provided me with have also helped to direct my efforts away from worrying about some of the added struggles that come with being from a socioeconomically disadvantaged family and region. These resources have allowed me to focus more on the pursuit of my goals and the cultivation of personal relationships with others that I hope to maintain throughout my life, making the weight of our journey easier to appreciate and love.
What advice would you like to offer current or future JAMP students?
To current and future JAMP students, my personal advice would be to find something
about each experience, moment, and person that you can love or appreciate; to continue
to cultivate your curiosity and be conscious of everything in hopes of remembering
the infinity of complexity and the specialty in everyday life so that you may get
closer to amor fati, the love of your fate, on this awesome journey towards the arête
of your potential.
Personally, the most helpful idea to remember when doing this has been to remain
skeptical as a scientist, but to limit my cynicism so that I can enjoy the lightness
of being.
What aspect of JAMP has been most beneficial to you?
The experiential knowledge gained during the internships has been the most beneficial
aspect of JAMP for me. Through direct observation and simulated practice in the field
of medicine, I have learned about various facets in medicine with respect to each
individual as well as health care systems as a whole that would be very difficult
to see without direct experience.
Along with direct experience in medical school and health care settings, the experiences
shared with us through anecdotes by current and aspiring physicians of various backgrounds
and life stages has greatly contributed to my edification towards being the best physician
I can be.
