How has JAMP helped you strive to achieve your goal of becoming a doctor?

JAMP provided me with an organized path to follow through their summer internships, MCAT study plan, and medical school application process.  Having this guide gave me constant motivation to continue moving forward, no matter how tough life became.

What advice would you like to offer current or future JAMP students?

I know it’s easy to get caught up with school, work, and other obligations you may have, but don’t forget to step back once in a while and take time for yourself. This will enable you to see the grand scheme of things and give you a fresh start towards your goal.

What aspect of JAMP has been most beneficial to you?

The connections I made with the other JAMP students, mentors, and internship faculty was definitely the most beneficial. At times when I struggled the most, it was the encouragement and inspiration from the people I met through JAMP that allowed me to persevere.

I’ve always known I wanted to become a doctor, but when I was a freshman in college, I had no idea where to start. I joined a pre-health organization hoping to find a potential mentor and met with a pre-health advisor. It was my pre-health advisor who told me about JAMP and the wonderful advantages of the program. After applying and getting accepted into the program, I was happy to learn there was so much more JAMP would give me than I initially thought.

JAMP provided me with lifelong friends and mentors, a glimpse of what medical school will be like, and confirmation that pursuing medicine was the right choice for me.  One of the happiest days of my undergraduate career was when I learned I would be attending McGovern Medical School in Houston, Texas.  At that moment I realized all of the late nights I spent studying and sacrifices I made were well worth it and soon, I’ll be starting on a whole new journey.
