My experiences during the JAMP Summer I and Summer II Internships have been really enriching. These eye-opening experiences have exposed me to what life will be like as a medical student and have helped me understand what it entails to become a physician.

How has JAMP helped you strive to achieve your goal of becoming a doctor?
Being the first person in my entire family to pursue a career in medicine has been and will continue to be challenging for me; however, JAMP has gone above and beyond with preparing me for medical school. JAMP has empowered me to pursue my dreams through scholarships, summer internships, stipends, mentorship, clinical experience, MCAT preparation, and the opportunity to interview at nine Texas medical schools. Words alone cannot express how thankful I am for this program.

What advice would you like to offer current or future JAMP students?
One of the amazing aspects about medicine is that you will meet countless numbers of people from various backgrounds. Along with meeting patients, you will also become acquainted with many talented individuals on your pathway to becoming a physician. I would advise you to work incredibly hard towards becoming the great physician you aspire to be, but please do not forget that you are a unique individual.

Your talents, background, level of knowledge, way of studying, definition of happiness, etc. will be different from your peers and that is okay! Embrace it. You will receive an overwhelming amount of advice from various different people in the future. What works well for someone else may not work well for you, so I really recommend trying to discover yourself. It will be beneficial if you can try to figure out the way you learn the best, the activities that truly help you de-stress, and what your priorities are early on.

What aspect of JAMP has been most beneficial to you?

Everything that JAMP has provided for me has been incredibly helpful and will continue to have a lasting impact on my future patients and me. In particular, my experiences during the JAMP Summer I and Summer II Internships have been really enriching. I met some of the most caring, talented, and committed individuals during my summer internships. They inspire me to be the best version of myself, and I am truly thankful that JAMP has provided me with this opportunity.
